Refine and Align

Step into a Refine and Align Yoga class and explore the precision and depth of foundational and fundamental yoga poses. This class focuses on alignment, balance and how to effectively use props to help students build a strong foundation for their practice. With a slower pace and an emphasis on proper technique, it’s perfect for those who want to rediscover each pose from the ground up.

What to Expect:

  • Detailed Instruction: Each pose is taught step-by-step, with clear guidance on alignment and adjustments to suit individual needs.
  • Props for Support: Chairs, blocks, straps, and blankets are used to make poses accessible and to refine your practice.
  • Mindful Awareness: Emphasis on breath and body awareness to connect deeply with each posture.
  • Build Strength and Flexibility: Develop both physical strength and flexibility in a safe, sustainable way.
  • Personalized Attention: With small class sizes, the teacher can offer individualized adjustments and modifications.

This class is ideal for students who appreciate a methodical approach to yoga or are looking to fine-tune their alignment for a safer and more effective practice. Whether you’re new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, Refine and Align will be a valuable resource for your practice.

Yoga teacher Kelly Solloway in Eagle pose at Y-Stretch Studio

Kelly Solloway: I took my first yoga class when I was 16. I was fortunate that yoga was introduced in my high school way back in 1983! One of my high school teachers introduced me to the practice and some of the classic eastern philosophical texts. It turned out that it would be another 17 years until I attended another yoga class, but my interest and study in eastern philosophy and thought continued. It was only after a few weeks of starting to practice hatha yoga, the physical practice of yoga, at a gym, that I started to realize yoga wasn’t just a physical pursuit, but had intellectual, spiritual and philosophical components as well. It was a feeling of “aha!” and also a feeling of relief. Yoga is holistic and embodies body, mind and spirit. I knew right away that I needed to learn more. I graduated from my first teacher training in 2004. After a couple of years of teaching part time it became apparent that I had to figure out a way to make this full time and leave my regular job. In 2008 I graduated from massage school, quit my job, crossed my fingers (and toes) and started on a new adventure. I have since taken many trainings and workshops and although I am a yoga teacher I still consider that secondary to being a student of yoga. In 2018 my first book was published, The Yoga Anatomy Coloring Book. This book is an Amazon #1 Bestseller, and was great fun to write. So much so, when my publisher asked for a second book, I jumped at the chance and Pose by Pose was published in 2020. Kelly Solloway is an E-RYT 500 YACEP Yoga Alliance Certified Yoga Teacher; a Licensed Massage Therapist, and the Author of The Yoga Anatomy Coloring Book and Pose by Pose.
